Here are some helpful landmark reminders of when to get what checked:
Age 16: start getting yearly breast examinations by a clinician.
Age 21: start getting Pap smears done.
Age 21: ovarian cancer screening: every year our office does a free pelvic ultrasound with every yearly examination to screen for ovarian cancer.
Age 35: get your first “baseline” screening mammogram. Check basic health maintenance labwork once a year.
Age 40: start getting screening mammograms once a year.
Age 50: start getting your stool tested for blood by a clinician during your rectal examination to screen for colon cancer.
Age 50: start getting a screening colonoscopy every 10 years.
Age 60: get your first DEXA (bone density) scan.
