How You Can Take Advantage of Vitamin Infusions Benefits

Vitamin-Infusion-Therapy

Healthier skin? Check. A booster for the immune system? Check. Recovery from a tough workout or crazy night out?  Vitamin infusions may just have you covered.

From Vegas hangover cures, to treatments for Parkinson’s disease, vitamin-infused IV drips have become a staple in the world of longevity, with even people like Rihanna backing it.

What are Vitamin Infusions?

As with most wellness trends, you have to beg the question “what is it and is it legitimate?”

Vitamin IV drips are quite a hot topic yet aren’t considered new to the market, as they have been around since the 1970s! Traditionally, the original patients of IV therapy were people unable to consume enough calories, or had illnesses that interfered with nutrient absorption, and the IV protected them against dehydration and malnourishment.

As it turns out, there are far more uses! A vitamin infusion is a worthwhile treatment that allows much for a much greater bioavailability of nutrients in the body, than if those same vitamins and minerals were consumed orally.

Vitamins that are consumed orally must pass through the gastrointestinal tract, where approximately only 50% of those nutrients will actually ever enter into the bloodstream for use throughout the body. In contrast, vitamin bioavailability via an IV infusion soars to about 90%, as you have taken away the steps to convert those same vitamins for entry into the bloodstream.

What is in a Vitamin Infusion?

Depending on the type of IV you choose, common vitamins and minerals you will see include:

  • B Vitamins
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • Vitamin C
  • Glutathione
  • Amino Acids

IV Therapy Vitamin Infusion

Each of these different nutrients serves a goal when it comes to optimizing your health. Now it’s time to take a look at the types of vitamin infusions you will see and what each treatment is beneficial for.

What are the Different Types of Vitamin Infusions?

There is an IV treatment that suits everyone’s bioindividual goals, whether you are looking for:

  • Age Management
  • Immune System Enhancement
  • Illness Prevention
  • Energy Boost
  • Detoxification
  • Artery Cleansing

Anti-aging IV Therapy

Who wouldn’t like to turn back the hands of time? An anti-aging vitamin infusion can make the skin more elastic and youthful. It can also improve memory, energize, and slow down the aging process.

Oftentimes a common antioxidant featured in an anti-aging IV is Glutathione. While glutathione is an integral part of every cell, the body stores less of it as it ages. Exposure to environmental stressors such as cigarette smoke, junk food, toxins, and drugs create free radicals in the body further depleting glutathione stores.

Since this antioxidant is not well-absorbed orally, an IV infusion is the ultimate way to access the fountain-of-youth effects offered by this super-antioxidant.

Hydration Therapy

An IV for dehydration will typically contain:

  • B vitamins
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium

Patients can cure dehydration with IV therapy much faster than chugging a couple bottles of water. Hydration therapy is ideal for that post-workout relief or curing a hangover, as it also flushes toxins out of the system.

Immune-boosting Therapy

A healthy immune system is vital for avoiding infections and other diseases. This IV therapy includes immune system boosters such as:

  • Lysine
  • Zinc

Zinc is crucial for the normal development and function of cells that mediate innate immune response, while L-lysine, is an amino acid that aids in Zinc’s absorption. These nutrients play key roles in protecting the body from viral and bacterial pathogens.

Pain-Relief IV Therapy

Chronic pain makes daily life a misery. IV treatments can help restore mobility as well as improve your quality of life by reducing systemic inflammation. When you reduce systemic inflammation by hydrating the cells and providing proper nutrient absorption, you should find sleeping, walking, and performing simple tasks are much easier.

Chelation Therapy

This type of infusion therapy can remove heavy metals such as lead and mercury from the body. These toxins are simply excreted from the body through the urine.

Ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA), a synthetic amino acid, binds to the molecules of these metals and removes them. Chelation therapy may aid in reducing systemic inflammation, thus providing relief to arthritis sufferers. It may also help to treat conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and high blood pressure.

What Are Some of the Additional Benefits of Vitamin Infusions?

A higher vitamin absorption rate is just one of many benefits when it comes to vitamin infusions! By using these potent combinations of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients, patients often receive immediate relief from the symptoms that burden them.

Vitamin infusion therapy can be used to aid a plethora of conditions, including:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Skin conditions
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Migraines
  • Muscle spasms
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Sinus infections

Hydration-Therapy-Patient

All vitamins used in infusions are water-soluble, which means that excess amounts are excreted in the urine after the body absorbs enough of the nutrients it needs.

Calming and Stress-Relieving Properties

Stress is part of life. Too much stress can wreak havoc on our mental state and our immune systems. While many people turn to medications to relieve stress, anxiety and depression, the price tag can be short-and-long-term side effects. Natural vitamin infusions offer a way to relieve stress, achieve calmness and mental clarity while regenerating the body’s nutrient deficiencies, without the unwanted side effects.

The Ultimate Guide to Modern Botox: Benefits, Safety & More

Botox-Missouri-Injections

We’ve all heard of it.

It’s the most popular cosmetic procedure to be done in the United States of all-time.

Yes, we’re talking about Botox.

However, Botox still has some lingering questions surrounding it.

In order to give you the full breakdown, we are going to discuss:

  • What Botox is
  • How it works
  • Botox’s history
  • How long it lasts
  • Difference of Botox and fillers
  • If it is right for you

Botox has a fascinating history of use, and doctors have discovered dozens of medical uses for Botox, besides just reducing the signs of aging.

What is Botox?

Botox is a safe, beneficial treatment used to treat wrinkles and certain conditions.

“Botox” is the colloquial term for onabotulinumtoxinA, which is a botulinum toxin strain that is produced from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum.

A Botox shot contains a very tiny amount of this highly-purified botulinum toxin refined from the bacterium to make it safe for injection and common use.

In fact, the amount of botulinum toxin in a Botox shot is so small that just one gram of this purified toxin is enough to make the world’s supply of Botox for an entire year.

Botox-Injection-Clinic_Missouri

The Science Behind Botox: How Does It Work?

Botox causes relaxation in the muscle by immobilizing the tissue with a botulinum toxin strain injection.

Sound scary? It’s not.

As mentioned earlier, the amount of this highly-refined strain is incredibly miniscule and provides significant benefit.

To understand why this works, we have to look at the history.

Botox for Treating Muscle Spasms

The cosmetic benefits of Botox were actually discovered as the result of a happy coincidence by researchers working closely with serious medical conditions.

In the 1960s, ophthalmologist Dr. Alan Scott did the unthinkable by injecting a form of botulinum toxin into one of his patient’s eyes, who was suffering from strabismus. Strabismus is a neuromuscular dysfunction that causes eye malalignment, resulting in double vision.

Dr. Scott’s experiment discovered that the botulinum toxin strain in Botox temporarily blocks chemical signals from nerves that tell muscles to contract, which allows the eye muscles to stop pulling in unnatural ways.

Later, Botox was then used to treat muscle spasms using the same principle, and it just so happened to reduce the look of wrinkles simultaneously.

Botox Evolves to Meet Cosmetic Market Demand

This propelled an interest in the research of Botox for beauty, and in 1992, Dr. Alastair Carruthers and his wife Dr. Jean Carruthers first published a report that Botox could be used for cosmetic purposes to smooth fine lines around the face.

You know the rest of the story.

Benefits of Botox: Cosmetic & Beyond

Botox treatments are known to be effective for:

  • Removing lines and wrinkles

Additionally, today, Botox is FDA-approved to treat medical conditions, such as:

  • Chronic migraines
  • Overactive bladder
  • Incontinence
  • Cervical dystonia
  • Upper & lower limb spasticity
  • Excess armpit sweating
  • Eye muscle strains
  • Eyelid spasms

It’s pretty surprising to know that a popular cosmetic treatment like Botox could have so many other proven benefits, and yet there is still more research that’s being done to look at its potential uses.

Fun Fact: In 2014, Dr. Rosenthal and Dr. Eric Finzi, a clinical professor of psychiatry and assistant professor of psychiatry at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, published a study that indicated Botox may also be effective in treating emotional disorders such as depression.

It is clear now that Botox has a broad spectrum of benefits, but the burning question everyone asks is, “is it safe?”

Is Botox Safe?

Good news. The small dose of highly refined botulinum toxin in Botox is considered not only effective, but also safe. In fact, only 36 adverse effects associated with cosmetic use were reported to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 1989 and 2003.

With that being said, it is important to make sure that you are receiving Botox treatments ONLY from a board certified physician or other qualified medicalprofessionals.

Doctors generally recommend against using Botox if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, those who are allergic to cow’s milk protein should do more research, as it can cause allergic reactions.

To learn more, consult with a doctor to see if Botox may be a good fit for you.

What are the Side Effects?

Side effects are possible, but usually very minimal. They most often include symptoms, such as:

  • Headaches
  • Bruising
  • Pain at injection site

These symptoms are typically very mild and subside in a timely manner. To experience the best results, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol intake, and exposure to extensive heat/sun for 24 hours post-injection.

So now that you know that the recovery time is almost non-existent, your next question might be how long the treatment itself may last.

How Long Does Botox Last?

In general, a Botox injection usually lasts between 3-4 months, but can last up to 6 months depending on how a patient’s body retains the injection. Sometimes, the first injection will wear off more quickly and the second treatment has a longer lasting effect.

You should see the full effects of your Botox treatment between 3-7 days.

What’s the Difference Between Botox and Fillers?

People often get confused with Botox and fillers, as they are used for the same anti-aging purposes. Both the treatments and the benefits are different, so it’s important to know which one is right for you to get the results you want:

  • Botox works by temporarily relacing muscles to stop creases and wrinkles where they are common, due to facial expressions and movements.

  • Fillers are gels made of hyaluronic acid that “fill in” areas in the face that have lost volume over time, due to decreased collagen production.

In other words, Botox targets wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement—known as dynamic wrinkles or “expression lines”—caused by smiling, frowning, squinting, or other facial expressions around the face.

Fillers increase volume in sagging areas around the face (e.g. thin lips, cheeks, mouth), to give your face a plump look.

Now that you have gotten the full debrief of Botox, it’s time to think about if it’s right for you!

Brand New Hair Loss Solution: What Is the Best Hair Loss Prevention in 2021

Hair Loss Prevention near me

Hair loss affects millions of people around the world. Time and time again, science comes up with all sorts of different hair loss solutions, from hair plugs to finasteride.

Thankfully, a new worthwhile treatment has emerged on the market that can help slow further hair loss and strengthen the hair you have. It’s a well-established therapy that is also used to treat other conditions, known as platelet rich plasma, or PRP.

While PRP has long been used to boost healing and treat arthritis, it is now gaining notoriety as a staple of natural anti-aging remedies.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Our blood is made up of two primary components:

  1.  Plasma
  2.  Red blood cells

Plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are full of growth factors, stimulating skin cell activity.

PRP treatment involves taking a patient’s blood sample and processing it in a centrifuge. The red blood cells are separated as the centrifuge spins,  to extract the PRP. The PRP is then injected into the patient’s scalp at the hair follicle ½ inch over the area of hair loss.

PRP Hair Loss Clinic

PRP Growth Factors

PRP doesn’t restore hair on its own. It has the help from rich nutrients that enhance tissue recovery and help repair damaged areas, including hair follicles.

The PRP growth factors encouraging hair replenishment include:

  • Epidermal growth factor – stimulates keratin protein production. Platelet-derived growth factor – increases collagen production to build hair proteins.
  • Transforming growth factor –increases new blood vessel growth.

Caveat: The success of a person’s PRP treatment depends on the quality of their platelets. Someone with a low level of platelets in their plasma may not have the same result as an individual with a higher platelet level.

What does a PRP Treatment Schedule Look Like?

For best results, the treatment should be given once a month for a total of three treatments to maximize hair regrowth. Based on patient response, treatments then take place every three to six months.

Those receiving PRP treatments should initially notice that hair loss decreases, and should later start to experience more regrowth and longer hair. This delay of hair loss and growth spurt should take place within two to three months after the first treatment session!

If regrowth is successful, expect to have an annual PRP injection “touch-up.”

The procedure is considered a very safe and natural treatment, leaving out the chance of allergic reactions or adverse effects since the patient’s own blood is used.

What are the Steps of a PRP Procedure for Hair Loss Prevention?

There are 3 steps taken in the PRP treatment process for hair loss prevention

  1. The patient’s blood is drawn by the doctor.
  2. The blood is spun in the centrifuge.
  3. The PRP is injected into the scalp.

The time elapsing from the blood draw to the injection ranges from 10-15 minutes, and the injections themselves take 30-40 minutes, depending upon the amount of thinning hair.

PRP Injection

Patients can expect to receive local anesthesia in the area of injection. If any discomfort is experienced, over-the-counter pain relievers and an ice pack go a long way to relieve soreness!

To achieve the best results, it is important to avoid any processing or heat treatments on hair, as well as sun exposure. Also, avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 48 hours post-treatment!

PRP Treatment Advantages

For hair loss prevention, PRP possesses several advantages over other therapies. The procedure is short and seamless, as no surgery is involved with a PRP treatment.

Another amazing benefit is that no sedation is necessary. Patients are completely free to go post-procedure and there is no downtime needed!

Check With Your Doctor to See if PRP is Right for You!

Before starting any treatment, it is always important to consult with a doctor to see if it is safe for you.

Most importantly, choose a clinic you trust! Whole Health JC  is a Health and Wellness Clinic led by Dr. Jen Su, a Gynecologist and Integrative Medicine Specialist. Our mission is to provide top-notch care to help you live a happy healthy life!

Hello

Is a hello something that we never really missed and now we are finding it again?

I haven’t posted a blog in 3 months. Tonight the Lord put it on my heart to say “Hello” to you guys and so I shall blog and it is feeling great to do so.

Recently, “Hello”s have been flying all throughout the Internet since the Coronavirus pandemic has entered our International community and we are practicing social-distancing.

Our Hellos are broadcasted through Facebook live, Facebook stories, Instagram, Instagram stories, YouTube videos. They are in the form of Italians singing from their windows which have been lifting our spirits here in America, they are in the form of virtual fitness classes, they are in the form of humor, as well as in the form of people keeping in touch with people.

In the past, social media had always been a double-edged sword, causing us to not know how interact on a human level anymore. Isolation & loneliness were on the rise in society as social media started to take over our personal time.

But now…

Social media is bringing us together again.

It seems that in the exact same way social media had taken away our need to say Hello to our neighbors, it is now an essential tool that is helping us say Hello to our neighbors… both near and far.

Fears and anxiety melt away some when we get to reach out and say “Hello”…a virtual hand to hold and that is something beautiful.

Oftentimes, saying “Hello” virtually seems easier that doing it in person. There is a safe distance, a safe boundary… so it may not be as healthy as a “real” old-fashioned interpersonal interaction; but it is working to ease our loneliness and isolation so I’ll take it.

So thank you to Mark Zuckerberg, Kevin Systrom, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, & Jawed Karim (founders of Facebook, Instagram, & Youtube respectively) for helping us keep in touch as a Community especially in times like this.

And to my wonderful subscribers…. Hello. You will always have my virtual hand to hold.

As always, Look with Intention.

XO, Jen

Christmas “Present”

I was actually Present this Christmas.

For me, life was good, yet, feelings of depression were worsening. I would have bouts of being happy followed by deep discouragement.

I have a wonderful husband, my parents are both alive and loving, and I have food, shelter, and clothing. I love the Lord Jesus. So why was I so down and truly sad? The embarrassing truth follows and you are free to roll your eyes: I was discouraged because my YouTube channel was not growing as fast as other channels were and I was upset and envious and frustrated… I wanted so badly to get to 1,000 subscribers. This sounds so “first-world-problem-ridiculousness”, right?

My Mom and Dad had been home for about 1 1/2 weeks and noticed that I should have been happier about them being home which is not normal for me. Mom also noticed that I was just “not there”. I was distracted.

I would constantly be checking to see how many views a video had and of course, how many subscribers I had. It was not healthy.

Why is it not healthy? It’s because my emotions were being controlled by people that I have no control over. My self-worth and happiness were being controlled by people that don’t really matter in the life I live.

If I would get a subscriber or two, I would be happy. If I would lose a subscriber, I would be devastated. These were the fluctuations in my mood that my Mom noticed and made her worried because something was just “off” with me.

My husband and I had just interviewed a Psychologist, Dr. Rich Lillard, of LIfesong Counseling for our medical YouTube channel and I after the interview, we were chatting and I had mentioned to him that my moods were down and I figured out it was linked to my slow-growing number of subscribers. He said that there are studies showing that many people experience what I experience: that a like or a subscriber is like a “hit of cocaine” for some people. And that the opposite, a loss of subscribers can cause depression as well.

So from that point on, I came to the conclusion that my obsession over getting subscribers was definitely the reason for my emotions and self-worth. It has now been 2 days of not checking on my numbers of subscribers or followers and I am totally “back” in reality…and thankfully Present. I am able to actually have a clear mind for the things that my family is saying to me instead of being obsessed and distracted.

I love the air that I breathe now. I am free. Free from the bondage that I created by wanting people to like my channel and to subscribe.

The only people that I should want to please is 1st Jesus, then my family. My husband should be the only subscriber that I need and now I am Present for him as well as my parents. It’s absolutely wonderful!

So this Christmas, I am Present. Thank the Lord. I have been saved out of the bondage of social media.

Taking the sage advice of my youngest step-kid, I now create videos because it is content that I enjoy creating…instead of creating content… to get subscribers.

Live your life and realize your worth. Your worth is far greater than the number of subscribers on YouTube or your number of followers on Instagram. In fact, Jesus thinks that you life is worth Him dying for you to live eternally with Him in Heaven.

So, disconnect your self-worth from social media. It’s potentially destructive for some people like me…and Jesus weeps when we make it more important than what He thinks of us.

This has to be one of my most favorite Christmases that I have ever had. For I am grateful that I am Present again in the land of REAL Life.

As always, Look with Intention
